It, is intended for technical personnel who are responsible for analyzing program operation, diagnosing malfunctions, and/or adapting the program to special usage. PREFACE This manual is designed to give the reader a thorough understanding of the functioning of the Basic programming Sup- port Basic Assembler Program. Effective use of this publication is based on an understanding of the IBM System/360 machine operations and the System/360 Basic Programming Support Basic Assembler Language. This information can be found in the following IBM System/360 publications: IBM System/360 Principles of Operation, Form A22-6821 IBM System/360 Basic Programming Support Basic AssemLler Language, Form C28-6503 The first section of this manual pre- sents the overall purpose and description of the Basic Programming Support Basic Assembler program. A breakdown of the Basic Programming Support Basic Assembler into its major components is also provided in this first section. The remainder of the manual is devoted to more detailed descriptions and flowcharts of the major components, down to the function block level. If more detail is needed than that provided by the function block description, the reader is referred to the Basic Pro- gramming Support Basic Assembler Program listing. MAJOR REVISION (June, 1965) This publication is a major revision of the previous edition, Form C28-6555-0, which is now obsolete. Significant changes have been made throughout this pUblication. The new edition should be reviewed in its entirety. This publication was prepared for production using an IBM computer to update the text and to control the page and line format. page impressions for photo-offset printing were obtained from an IBM 1403 Printer using a special print chain.
